New 1918-1919 Flu Pandemic Study Shows Death Rates In 14 European Countries

A new study carried out in France analyses the mortality rates in about 75% of the European population during the 1918-1919 flu pandemic (Spanish Flu). Pediatric Nurse Practitioners Respond Swiftly To Swine Flu Outbreak

Health officials have alerted all healthcare providers to be prepared to treat all suspected cases of swine flu, educate the public and report confirmed cases to their state health departments. On Wednesday, April 29, 2009, the first confirmed death in the United States was reported from a 23-month-old toddler in TX. Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) are on the front lines of defense when identifying patients with swine flu.

Africa Braces Up To Combat Swine-Flu

The Africa Regional Office of the World Health Organization (AFRO) has launched a programme to combat the potential spread to Africa of the swine influenza A/H1N1 which, as at 29 April, had been officially reported in nine countries. No cases of swine influenza A/H1N1 have been reported in Africa. "We have established a crisis management team at the Regional Office in Brazzaville to monitor the situation and to respond if necessary to any swine flu outbreaks.

Swine Flu - Public Health Information and Video, UK

The Department of Health (DH), in the United Kingdom, has issued an information leaflet on swine flu and launched a television advertising campaign to give people advice on how to prevent the disease from spreading. Swine flu is a respiratory disease and has some elements of a virus found in pigs. Swine flu has now been confirmed in a number of countries and it is spreading from human to human, which could lead to what is known as a pandemic flu outbreak.

Swine Flu Cases Confirmed In England

Three patients under investigation in England have been confirmed with swine flu, bringing the current total number of confirmed UK cases to five. Testing of the swine flu virus was carried out by the Health Protection Agency's Centre for Infections Virus Reference Department. All three cases - an adult from London, an adult from the West Midlands and an adolescent from the South West - are responding well to treatment at home.

Swine Flu Precautionary Measures Taken At College In Paignton, Devon

The Health Protection Agency is working with Torbay Care Trust and local authorities following the earlier confirmation of a case of swine flu in a pupil at a college in Paignton. As a precautionary measure, acting under advice from local health protection experts, the college will close at the normal time today and remain closed for seven consecutive days.
