Complementary Medicines Can Help Mild Depression And Premenstrual Syndrome

Many people use "alternative" or complementary products because they see them as a more gentle form of medicine. The German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care has now analysed the latest research on several products and released the results along with a guide for consumers. St John's wort (hypericum), for example, could help ease mild depression, but it does not help with severe depression.

Asthma UK Cymru Launches Report On The State Of Asthma Services And Care In Wales

Asthma UK Cymru is launching a report 'A Quarter of a Million Voices….and Counting', which outlines the challenges facing people with asthma in Wales today and highlights the need for asthma health services in Wales to be vastly improved. Rates of asthma in Wales are among the highest in the world, with 1 in 12 adults and 1 in 10 children living with the condition.

Pharmacists As Educators Can Improve Asthma Outcomes

New research has shown that up to 90 per cent of people on asthma medications are using their inhalers incorrectly leading to poor asthma control, increased hospital visits and increased cost of treatment. The study then went on to show how a brief educational chat with a pharmacist about inhaler technique and stickers on the medication can lead to improved asthma control in the patients.

Hispanics In Florida Have High Asthma Rates; Puerto Ricans Most Affected

More than 10% of Hispanics in Florida have asthma, about the same rate as all people in Florida, according to the state Department of Health, and Puerto Ricans in particular have a higher risk of the condition, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Nationally, about 11.2% of Americans have asthma.

Aradigm Initiates Phase 2 Study Of Inhaled Liposomal Ciprofloxacin In Bronchiectasis

Aradigm Corporation (OTCBB: ARDM) announced it has initiated a multicenter Phase 2 clinical trial of its inhaled liposomal ciprofloxacin in adult patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. Following an antibiotic washout period, 36 patients will be enrolled to receive daily inhaled liposomal ciprofloxacin for a period of 28 consecutive days.
