Shorter Treatment Time For Tuberculosis Using New Antibiotic Drug Combo

A team of tuberculosis (TB) experts at Johns Hopkins and in Brazil have evidence that substituting the antibiotic moxifloxacin in the regimen of drugs used to treat the highly contagious form of lung disease could dramatically shorten the time needed to cure the illness from six months to four. Diet Support Helps Chronic Kidney Patients

Regular counselling on diet and lifestyle offers significant benefits to people with chronic kidney disease, according to new Queensland University Technology research. Dietitian Katrina Campbell, who graduated with her PhD from QUT yesterday, monitored the diets of 62 pre-dialysis patients at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RB&WH) and supported them with regular contact as part of her thesis. Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C., announced that the investigational antibiotic doripenem was found to clinically cure 81% of patients with nosocomial pneumonia (NP), and 68% of patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in studies comparing doripenem to commonly used therapies.
