Research has shown that some 66% of patients seeking treatment at fertility clinics use complementary medicines and therapies alongside prescribed medication. Understanding Mechanisms Of Common Colds: A New Approach To Help Control Asthma Attacks

In an article published today (27 February) in the journal Allergy, experts in the Global Allergy and Asthma European Network (GA²LEN) suggest that respiratory infections are a main trigger of asthma attacks. Respiratory Distress In Newborns Could Potentially Be Rare Genetic Disease

Newborns with respiratory distress should be evaluated for primary ciliary dyskinesia, a rare genetic disease that has features similar to cystic fibrosis, says Thomas Ferkol, M.D., from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Conventional Wisdom On Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis May Be Overturned By New Research

A newly released study suggests that the majority of cases of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) among patients undergoing treatment for the disease may be due to new infections, not acquired resistance. FDA Proposes To Strengthen Label Warning For Xolair

Today the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it has requested Genentech, Inc. add a boxed warning to the product label for omalizumab, marketed as Xolair. The boxed warning emphasizes that Xolair, used to treat patients with asthma related to allergies, may cause anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis may include trouble breathing, chest tightness, dizziness, fainting, itching and hives, and swelling of the mouth and throat. [click link for full article]

US Scientists Prototype Breath Test For Lung Cancer

US scientists have developed and tested a prototype breath test to detect lung cancer.The results of the test is published in the international journal of respiratory medicine Thorax.In tests, the colour testing device, which is about the size of a coin and is not expensive, had a 75 per cent success rate in detecting people with cancer.It can also detect people with early stages of lung cancer.
