EU Prioritises Allergic Diseases In The Seventh Framework Programme For Research

GA²LEN welcomes the vote of the European Parliament on the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) on 30 November that acknowledges allergic diseases as major chronic diseases to be addressed in European research during the coming 7 years (2007 - 2013).The European Parliament adopted the report of Prof. Jerzy Buzek that recognises “respiratory diseases including those induced by allergies” as health priorities to be addressed by translational research. Multi-Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis Epidemic May Be Larger Than Previously Thought

FDA Approves Cyanokit(R) For Treatment Of Cyanide Poisoning

EMD Pharmaceuticals and Dey, LP, U.S. Affiliates of Merck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany, jointly announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Cyanokit(R) (hydroxocobalamin for injection), for the treatment of known or suspected cyanide poisoning. Ketek May Well Lose Sinusitis And Bronchitis Approval, FDA

Ketek (telithromycin), an antibiotic used to combat pneumonia, as well as treating bronchitis and sinusitis, got an unfavorable review from an FDA Advisory Committee (panel) yesterday. Ketek's pneumonia indication may soon come with a 'black box' warning, while its approval for the treatment of sinusitis and bronchitis will go altogether if the FDA does what the panel recommends.
