Asthma Linked To Increased Risk For Sleep Apnea In Young Women By Study

Researchers from the University of Cincinnati (UC) and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) have found that young women with asthma are twice as likely to have symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea--a condition that often goes undetected in women--compared with those who do not have asthma.The Cincinnati team found that about 21 percent of young adult women with asthma experienced habitual snoring, the primary symptom of obstructive sleep apnea. Panel Appointed To Help Improve Lung Disease Services, UK

Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) will be offered more choice and improved standards of care thanks to a newly appointed panel advising on the development of a National Service Framework.Secretary of State Patricia Hewitt annouced the NSF in June saying that, for patients with diseases such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis, the proposal would provide more choice in treatment, reduce inequalities in care, and improve standards. Glade(R) Products Do Not Contain Ingredient Reported By The U.S. National Institutes Of Health That Are Suspected Of Affecting Lung Function

Today SC Johnson stated onceagain that none of its products contain the chemical ingredient 1,4dichlorobenzene (1,4 DCB). This chemical has been the subject of a studydone by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).The study, published in the August 2006 issue of the journal EnvironmentalHealth Perspectives suggested exposure to 1,4 DCB (also known asparadichlorobenzene or pDCB) may cause modest reductions in lung function. Transcendental Meditation Reduces The Brain’s Reaction To Pain

Twelve healthy long-term meditators who had been practicing Transcendental Meditation for 30 years showed a 40-50% lower brain response to pain compared to 12 healthy controls, reported by a latest NeuroReport journal article, published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (Vol.17 No.12; 21 August 2006:1359-1363). Further, when the 12 controls then learned and practiced Transcendental Meditation for 5 months, their brain responses to pain also decreased by a comparable 40-50%. [click link for full article]
