Complementary, Alternative Medicine Use High And Varied In Treating Middle Ear Infection In Israeli Children

Israeli researchers have found that slightly more than half of children admitted to a major treatment facility for acute otitis media have received alternative and complementary therapy. The most common therapy received was various immune boosting national preparations containing Echinacea Purpurea, despite the fact that no evidence exists proving that this product is effective against this common pediatric medical disorder. Myth Of Chiropractic-Caused Strokes Debunked By Medical Researchers

A recent billboardadvertisement, carried on the side of a bus in Bridgeport, Conn., is thelatest in a series of attacks on chiropractic that use scare tactics andmisinformation to undermine the growth of the profession, according to theWorld Chiropractic Alliance (WCA). More Effective Reporting Needed On Spinal Manipulation In Children

Few serious harmful events stemming from spinal manipulation in children have been reported compared to the number of manipulations delivered, says new University of Alberta research. The results, which are to be presented at The North American Research Conference on Complementary and Integrative Medicine held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, May 24th-27th, 2006, show the need to develop a more effective reporting system among health professions. NHS Should Stop Funding Alternative Therapies, Say UK Top Doctors

Some eminent British doctors are urging the National Health Service (NHS) to stop paying for alternative therapies. They argue that these 'bogus' therapies are not proven according to 'solid evidence'. While UK patients are being denied such drugs as Herceptin, the NHS, which is strapped for cash, should not be paying for 'unproven or disproved treatments', such as homeopathy. Complementary Medical Association Response To Dr. Baum And Colleagues

Professor Michael Baum, Emeritus Professor of Surgery, University College London, and 12 other doctors and scientists published an open letter in The Times newspaper on 23 May which was circulated to all 476 NHS Trusts. This letter was basically an attack upon "Alternative Medicine" and it's use in the NHS. Baum and colleagues letter to The Times was full of inaccuracies and was poorly researched. Large NCI Grant Will Test The Effect Of Tibetan Yoga On Women With Breast Cancer

HOUSTON - Researchers at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center have received a $2.4 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to study the effects of Tibetan yoga in women with breast cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy. The award is the largest ever made to study Tibetan yoga in cancer patients, say the researchers, who published a 2004 study in Cancer that found the practice led to significant sleep improvements in patients with lymphoma.
