ADAO Applauds Introduction Of Landmark Bill To Ban Asbestos In America And Protect Public Health

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), the largest organization in the United States dedicated to serving as the voice of asbestos victims, today applauded the U.S. House of Representatives and the Subcommittee on Environment and Hazardous Materials for introducing H.R. 6903, the "Bruce Vento Ban Asbestos and Prevent Mesothelioma Act of 2008" - a critical piece of legislation that once passed, will help to stop exposure to the lethal asbestos mineral.

American Cancer Society Study Finds High Use Of Complementary Methods Among Cancer Survivors

A new study from researchers at the American Cancer Society finds many cancer patients use complementary and alternative methods, most often prayer, relaxation, supplements, meditation, and massage. Meanwhile, the use of other methods, such as biofeedback, homeopathy, and acupressure, are relatively uncommon.

Elusive Target In Cancer Cells Targeted By Magnolia Compound

A natural compound from magnolia cones blocks a pathway for cancer growth that was previously considered "undruggable," researchers have found. A laboratory led by Jack Arbiser, MD, PhD, at Emory University School of Medicine, has been studying the compound honokiol, found in Japanese and Chinese herbal medicines, since discovering its ability to inhibit tumor growth in mice in 2003.

Researchers Identify Cancer Preventive Properties In Common Vitamin Supplement

Early laboratory research has shown that resveratrol, a common dietary supplement, suppresses the abnormal cell formation that leads to most types of breast cancer, suggesting a potential role for the agent in breast cancer prevention. Resveratrol is a natural substance found in red wine and red grapes. It is sold in extract form as a dietary supplement at most major drug stores.

Feds Crack Down On Fake Cancer Cures

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is cracking down on individuals and companies that market treatment products while fraudulently claiming them to be effective at preventing, treating or curing cancer. The FDA, a federal agency in the US government's executive Department of Health and Human Services, announced yesterday, 17th June, that it had sent "warning letters" to 23 US firms and two foreign individuals.
